Recognizing our LVTs

RASKC is proud to take this opportunity to recognize all Veterinary Technicians, especially ours, who are critical to the day-to-day function of veterinary practice. Because of their commitment, we are helping pets every day.

We know these Licensed Veterinary Technicians rock, but don’t take our word for it. Here’s a quick Q&A with this soulful team.

Meet Vet Tech, Amie L.

What made you want to become an LVT?
I have always known I wanted to work with animals.

What is your favorite LVT story?
My favorite story.  A receptionist came up to me one day and told me I helped a client get a new puppy.  She had to euthanize her dog due to old age and she was just devastated.  She told the receptionist that just talking to me for the short while we where in the room together made her feel better and at peace.

Describe one word that sums up your LVT day-to-day job?
Messy

Would you recommend it to anyone that is interested in becoming an LVT? Why
Becoming an LVT opens doors for you as far as working with animals.

Meet Vet Tech, Courtney R.

What made you want to become an LVT?
My dad is a veterinarian and I grew up going to work with him and love animals, so I found my career choice as a veterinary technician by following him around, I wanted to be the nurse and advocate for the sick animals and the hands on with them and that is why I chose being a vet tech over being a veterinarian.

What is your favorite LVT story?
My favorite LVT story would have to be more like my favorite part of being a vet tech which is taking animals that are sick and dying and making them healthy again with the nursing skills we provide and the compassion we put into our patients.  My day to day job is filled with compassion and the drive to fight for the animals since they have no voice.

Describe one word that sums up your LVT day-to-day job?
Messy

Would you recommend it to anyone that is interested in becoming an LVT? Why
For anyone that is interested in becoming a vet tech I would say it is an extremely tough job but I wouldn’t change what I do, we are a jack of all trades and can wear many hats on a day to day basis but the pay we get is minimal, but with that being said I love my role as a vet tech and hope that some day we will be compensated better for the job we do.

Meet Foster Coordinator (and licensed vet tech), Lori Mason

What made you want to become an LVT?
Being a LVT was not in my plan. I was hired as a receptionist for a vet clinic and with the encouragement and support from my boss I worked hard and got my license.

What is your favorite LVT story?
My favorite LVT story is when I have the ability to save lives here. Kittens and adult cats…. Does my heart good!

Describe one word that sums up your LVT day-to-day job?
POOP
(Foster parents will understand this statement)

Would you recommend it to anyone that is interested in becoming an LVT? Why?
Being a vet tech is hard work that often goes unseen, but the rewards are hidden. The furry customers we serve can’t communicate (obviously!) their appreciation, but even if they could, it’s not about getting a “thank you”, it’s just about doing the right thing. We love the animals, we love to care for the animals, and yes we are the BOMB!
