Pet of the Week: Colby

Let’s hear it for Colby, our Pet of the Week!

This nearly one-year-old Labrador Retriever/Anatolian Shepherd mix was brought in by a good Samaritan in early February. At 73 pounds, he is considered a large breed dog.

Colby is very treat motivated, which will help since he’s not yet potty trained or crate trained. As he’s just 11 months old, Colby is full of energy and loves to play! Since he’s so energetic and strong, he is one of our “Rambunctious Red” personality pets.

Colby tends to calm down when the people around him stay calm. Getting lots of exercise and having something to keep his mind busy will help him burn off his young dog energy. Colby likes to play, but he can be a bit overwhelming for other dogs. When meeting dogs in his new home, Colby would to best with a slow introduction.

Due to his size and energy level, Colby is looking for someone who is strong and can work with him to become the best dog he can be. He would do best in a home with older children since he is still learning his manners. He will also need a home where someone is available in these early days, and can be consistent with training, socializing, and companionship. Colby is still young, so he will need patience and understanding while he learns.

Can you give Colby the loving home he deserves? He is neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. His adoption comes with many benefits, including 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion. Since Colby is our Pet of the Week, his adoption fee has been reduced, though a pet license fee may still apply. Visit kingcounty.gov/LicenseMyPet to learn about all the benefits that come with a pet license.

Colby has many friends also waiting for their forever homes, and through March 31 you can adopt an adult dog for just $50! Check out all their profiles at kingcounty.gov/AdoptAPet or meet them in person at the Pet Adoption Center, 21615 64th Ave. S. in Kent. Adoption hours are noon to 5 p.m. weekdays, and noon to 4 p.m. weekends. If you have questions, contact RASKC at 206-296-7387 (PETS) or email pets@kingcounty.gov.
