This “tasty little snack” is our Pet of the Week – meet Dorito!

This young boy was brought in by a good Samaritan in late March when they found him eating out of a grocery store dumpster. Dorito can be a little shy at first, but that’s because being at the shelter is so new to him. That makes Dorito one of our “Bashful Blue” personality pets.

Dorito is a gentle and loving boy who likes to take things slow. His new family should understand that he may take some time to warm up. Once Dorito gets to know you, though, he will plop onto his side and ask for unlimited amounts of petting. While he lived outside for most of his life so far, Dorito is ready to leave that behind and find a nice place to call his forever home.

Potential adopters should know that Dorito is FIV-positive. This is a viral infection that spreads from cat to cat typically through saliva or bite wounds. FIV can make cats more susceptible to other infections. There is no cure for FIV, but with proper veterinary care, FIV-positive cats can live many healthy years. Dorito should be the only cat in his new home, or live with other FIV-positive cats.

Dorito also has a wound on his right hind leg that is healing with the help of long-acting antibiotics. Our veterinarians also found evidence that he broke that same leg at some point, but it has healed and is stable. As with all pets, follow up with your regular veterinarian to discuss long-term health care needs.

Are you ready to take Dorito home? He is neutered, litterbox trained, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. His adoption comes with a free visit to the veterinarian of your choice and 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion. Since he is our Pet of the Week, Dorito’s adoption fee is reduced, but a pet license fee may still apply.
