The place will be hoppin’ on Sunday, May 31 as Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) and Reber Ranch team up to offer rabbit adoptions from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Since rabbits are social animals and do better together, prospective adopters will be encouraged to take home bonded pairs during this special event.

Rabbits are fun and engaging pets for those who take the time to learn about them. They are affectionate and playful, and often enjoy spending time with their people. The best way to bond with a rabbit is to spend time with them on the floor and shower them with plenty of treats. Rabbits also enjoy hopping around in a secure area while they explore and play with their toys. It’s during supervised playtime that rabbits exhibit some of their most interesting behaviors. And while they may be small and quiet, rabbits still require lots of care and attention just like any other animal companion.

When preparing your home for a new rabbit, think about their habitat and set aside spaces for:

  • Food and water
  • Exercise and play
  • A litter box
  • A “hidey hole” where they can rest undisturbed

Rabbits can have sensitive stomachs, so proper feeding is important. Rabbits thrive on the right balance of pellet food, timothy hay, fresh vegetables, leafy greens, and of course fresh, clean water.

Rabbit-proofing your home is also essential, including keeping them away from hazards like wires and cords they could chew on. You should also have access to a veterinarian who is experienced in rabbit healthcare. Proper healthcare is key to a long and happy life for your new pet.
