Pet of the Week: Pepper

Put some spice into your life with Pepper, our Pet of the Week!

This young tortie girl came to us in May because she was not enjoying the young human in the home. Pepper’s previous owner described her as liking ear scratches and playing with light reflections and lasers, but that she could also be a bit lazy.

Pepper is an independent kitty who likes to do her own thing. She prefers getting attention on her own terms, and can get overstimulated with petting. Her new family should move carefully and keep an eye out for signs that Pepper might need a break. Because she’s got that independent streak, Pepper is one of our “Rambunctious Red” pets. Caregivers at the Pet Adoption Center have also noticed that Pepper doesn’t seem to get along with other cats, so she may do best as the only cat in her new home.

Our vet staff says that Pepper has a history of crystalluria, which sometimes causes her to urinate outside of her litterbox. Pepper now has a prescription for Hill’s Science Diet C/D food, which helps resolve and prevent crystals. If you continue Pepper on that food and keep her litterbox area tidy, she is likely to have good hygiene moving forward.

Do you have room in your heart and home for Pepper? She comes spayed and microchipped, and her adoption includes a free visit to the veterinarian of your choice. All pets adopted from RASKC also come with 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion. Since Pepper is our Pet of the Week, her adoption fee has been reduced, though a pet license fee may still apply.
