Pet of the Week: Optimus

Here’s a prime pooch looking for a new home – Optimus, our Pet of the Week!

This nearly seven-year-old boy was brought in by his previous owner because they were moving and unable to bring him with. Optimus is an American Foxhound mix who tips the scales at about 120 pounds. He will need help getting back to a healthy weight, including regular walks for exercise and regulated meals and treats.

This affectionate lovebug would be thrilled to cuddle up with you at home! He is also a very smart dog, as he knows “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and “shake.” Optimus is very motivated to work for yummy food, so much of his feeding could take place in training sessions and enrichment activities.

Caregivers have noticed that other animals can stress him out, so Optimus would prefer a home all to himself. He has been known to resource guard, displaying behavior intended to convince other dogs or humans to stay away from a particular treasure. The resource he tends to guard is food and treats. If you take Optimus home, you will benefit from in-home guidance to help to manage and improve this behavior.

Because he’s such an energetic boy, his personality color is Rambunctious Red. Optimus is still working on his manners, so he would do best with a family who is willing to work with him and help him become the best dog he can be!

Optimus is neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. His adoption includes a free visit to the veterinarian of your choice and 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion. Since he is our Pet of the Week, his adoption fee is waived, though a pet license fee may still apply.
