Looking for a handsome, high-energy pal? Our Pet of the Week Benji may fit the bill!

This young Australian cattle dog mix was brought in by his former owner because he was overwhelmed by the children in the home. Based on that history, the caretakers at the Pet Adoption Center feel that a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids would be the best fit for this amazing boy.

Benji is incredibly intelligent, and hasn’t always had the opportunity to expand his brilliance – which causes him to burn off his energy in not-so-appealing ways, like chewing on things or using his mouth to communicate. But, Benji is a young dog with a lot of potential to become an amazing and loyal companion. He just needs someone who is committed to working with him consistently.

Because he’s so high energy, Benji is one of our “Rambunctious Red” pets. He’s not the most snuggly dog, and while he enjoys being petted, Benji isn’t interested in being hugged. This is very normal behavior for his breed, which are born to be independent and need lots of personal space.

Benji is extremely food motivated, and will work hard for it to learn new positive behaviors. He also loves agility work and getting brain exercise. This allows Benji to use his natural athletic and thinking skills, which in turn helps him relax and tire out. Benji is still working on his manners and housetraining, so he would do best with a family who is willing to work with him reach his full potential.

Benji is neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. His adoption comes with a free visit to the veterinarian of your choice, and 30 days of opt-in pet insurance thru Trupanion.
