Pet of the Week: Hemlock

A hale and hearty hello to Hemlock, our Pet of the Week!

This handsome boy was brought in by a good Samaritan in mid-December. Hemi, as he’s also known, is the sweetest old man you’ll ever meet. He is a huge cuddle bug who drools when he’s happy. Hemlock purrs almost on contact and will rub his face all over you. At 12 years young, Hemlock still loves to play, especially with teasers and chase toys! He is sweet and gentle, and non-reactive to other cats, but he does get a bit confused when you pick him up though.

Hemlock has an “Easy Going Green” personality – he is an adaptable cat who loves to go with the flow. He is outgoing and carefree, and just can’t wait to find his forever home!

Hemlock is FIV+. While FIV+ cats can have shorter lifespans, they can still live fulfilling lives for many years in good health with proper management and care. Regular veterinary visits are always recommended with any pet. Hemlock also had some teeth extracted after he came into care, and may need future dental work including possible extractions. He also has some oral ulcerations which can be a sign of calicivirus which can be contagious to other cats. Although he does get along with other cats, we recommend Hemlock be an “only cat.”

Hemlock is litter box trained, neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. As our Pet of the Week, his adoption fee has been waived. (A pet license fee may still be required.) Included with Hemlock’s adoption is a free visit to the veterinarian of your choice and 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion.

If you’re looking for a handsome, older gentleman who loves to cuddle, then Hemlock could be the one for you! You can find out more about him, or any of our adoptable pets, at kingcounty.gov/AdoptAPet.
