Pet of the Week: Alaska
No need to head north to find our Pet of the Week – we’re bringing Alaska to you!
This five-year-old German Shepherd mix was brought in by an animal control officer in mid-April. At 60 pounds, Alaska is considered a large breed dog.
When she arrived at the Pet Adoption Center, Alaska had an uncomfortable skin infection, which made her nervous about being petted. Fortunately, with vet care and medication, Alaska’s skin has improved tremendously, and she’s quickly learning that being petted and loved on is actually pretty great!
Alaska shows some independence and likes to do her own thing. But, caregivers at the Pet Adoption Center have also noted that she seems to do well with other large dogs that are gentle and easy-going. She would not do well with energetic dogs that have a rowdy play style. As always, when meeting dogs in her new home, a slow introduction is best. Due to her somewhat reserved nature, Alaska would do best in a calm, adults-only home or one with older children.
If you’re ready to take a chance on a girl with a heart as big as the 49th state, Alaska is ready for you! Alaska is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. Her adoption comes with many benefits, including 30 days of opt-in pet health insurance from Trupanion and a lifetime discount on online training from GoodPup. Since she’s our Pet of the Week, Alaska’s adoption fee is reduced, but a pet license fee may still apply. Learn about all the benefits that come with a pet license at kingcounty.gov/LicenseMyPet.
We have lots of great dogs, cats, rabbits, and other critters waiting for their fur-ever homes. You can see them all at kingcounty.gov/AdoptAPet. And don’t forget: we’ve got daily pet adoption specials through July 31. If you visit our Pet Adoption Center in Kent, our adoption hours are noon to 5pm weekdays and noon to 4pm weekends.
