The search for a lost zebra near North Bend, Washington continues into a fifth day. Residents have reported seeing the mare at least once in the last 24 hours, near the Snoqualmie Valley Trail on Friday morning.

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) has been in contact with the zebra’s owner who lives in Montana. She tells RASKC that she has a person local to Washington state and familiar with animal behavior who will be attempting to capture the zebra. If and when they are successful, RASKC will release that information to the media and public.

This morning, staff from King County Parks posted closure notices at several key access points off of the Snoqualmie Valley Trail near Boxley Creek Natural Area. A deputy was also present to discourage people from trying to see and approach the zebra. This is in the same general area where the zebra has been seen several times. The trail access points will remain closed until further notice.

There have been media reports that people are driving, walking, or biking through the areas where the zebra has been seen. Not only is this potentially dangerous to humans and the zebra, but it also impedes efforts to capture the animal. Residents are asked to avoid any unnecessary trips to the area just to try to “see the zebra.”

RASKC continues to take reports of zebra sightings from those who live in North Bend and surrounding areas. Animal control officers are not actively searching for the zebra, but will follow up on credible reports as they are able. Officers will also continue to check the area southeast of North Bend on their regular daily patrols. Anyone who sees the zebra should call it in to 911 for fastest response. Photos or videos that help pinpoint locations are also welcome. Those can be emailed to RASKCMedia@kingcounty.gov.

Updates will continue to be posted on RASKC’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and X/Twitter, as well as TailsFromRASKC.com.
