Meet Megan! With tremendous pleasure RASKC names Megan Wood as a Volunteer of the Month for April 2022. She serves in many roles on RASKC’s Dog Team: “Red” Dog Walker on a weekly shift, training mentor, Dog Skills Assessor, Pet Publicist, and a member of our pre-pandemic Dog Behavior Modification Team. She also takes RASKC dogs on WAGS (Walks, Adventures, and Getting Socialized) outings. Megan is super skilled, very reliable, and a delight to work with. Since she began in 2016, Megan has contributed about 450 hours so far. Thank you, Megan!

Q: What have you gained so far from your experience as a RASKC volunteer?

A: I have learned so much about dog behavior since I started at RASKC! I get to work with dogs of all ages, sizes and personalities. Every shift is different but equally rewarding. The training RASKC has provided has been especially beneficial; it allows me to recognize and support each dog’s unique needs.

Q: Tell us about yourself.

A: I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. I spent a lot of time at the beach! I enjoy hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

I also volunteer at an equine rescue. Prior to moving to Washington state, I volunteered at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. where I helped care for sloths, lemurs, monkeys, and meerkats, to name a few!

Q: What is Jemma like?

I have a ten-year-old boxer mix named Jemma, who I adopted nine years ago. She is a high energy girl with a BIG personality. Jemma has completed a few half-marathons with me. In her younger years, [she] could easily run 15 miles with energy to burn. She pretty much loves any human she meets, and I feel lucky to have her! We go to Lincoln Park frequently and enjoy hiking all over Washington.
