Play ball with Raider, our Pet of the Week!
This eight-year-old German Shepherd boy was brought in by his previous owner in April because they could no longer care for him. Raider lived in a home with other dogs and was described as independent.
One thing our dog walker volunteers have noticed is that Raider LOVES the water! His favorite thing is to go for walks on the beach and head straight for the water and splash around. Sometimes he will get a little anxious or impatient on car rides, but it helps if you lower the window a bit so Raider can sniff outside. He is also getting much better on a leash and reacts well with a little gentle correction. Raider doesn’t usually react to other dogs on walks unless they bark at him – then he will bark back. Raider does well with commands and knows “sit,” “down,” “paw,” and “stay.” For such a big guy, he takes treats gently. Our volunteers think Raider has the perfect demeanor to make a great family pet in a home with older children. He would love a yard to sniff around in and lounge in the sun. Raider also enjoys playing fetch and getting a good brushing. He also loves scritches – especially on his posterior!
While he has lived with other dogs, caregivers have noticed that Raider may not do well with them. If you do have other dogs, he would benefit with a slow introduction.
Raider is a spirited dog with a fun-loving personality, so he is one of our “Rambunctious Red” pets. He is still working on his manners, so Raider would do best with a family who is willing to work with him and help him become the best dog he can be!
Currently, Raider has an infection in both ears and is being treated with a topical medication. Raider has a malformation of his ears, making him prone to ear infections. It’s recommended to follow up with your regular veterinarian.
Raider is current on vaccinations and microchipped. Since he is our Pet of the Week, his adoption fee is reduced, although a pet license is a requirement and a fee may be applied. His adoption comes with a free visit to the veterinarian of your choice and 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion.
