Pet of the Week: Maxwell

Get smart with Maxwell, our Pet of the Week!

This senior boy is a super sweet adventure cat! He was brought in by his previous family this spring because they were moving. While with us, he’s wandered around the cat building checking things out (with supervision of course), and wasn’t bothered by the other kitties. Unlike many cats, Maxwell would love to go on walks outside on a leash and harness.

Maxwell lived with another cat, and his previous family described him as shy but loving. We’ve noticed that he’s definitely an affectionate lovebug who would be thrilled to cuddle up with you at home as the days get colder. His “Rambunctious Red” personality means he’s a spirited cat with a fun-loving personality. Maxwell can get overstimulated with petting, so his adoptive family will need to keep an eye out for signs that he might need a break. So, we think he would do best in a home with a cat-savvy family who knows when to give Maxwell some space.

When Maxwell had a dental cleaning, caretakers noted moderate gingivitis and gingival recession, so future dental care may be needed. He also has feline leukemia or FeLV. Cats infected with this virus can have an active or latent infection requiring additional veterinary care. However, with proper care, cats with FeLV can have a good quality of life for many years. FeLV can be transmitted to other cats, so Maxwell should be either an only cat or live with other FeLV-positive cats. Maxwell also has some other health conditions that will require regular veterinary care and a health management plan. Our staff will be happy to discuss his needs with you if you make an adoption appointment. Maxwell will most likely need to be on a special diet and long-term medications.

Ready to take Maxwell on? He is litterbox trained, neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. His adoption comes with a free visit to the veterinarian of your choice and 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion. As Pet of the Week, his adoption fee has been waived, but a pet license may still be required. This helps his safe return home should he become lost, and comes with additional benefits such as Vacation Pet Alert, Free Ride Home, and more!
